Our methodology
Skinvisor is an independent comparator. No paid ratings, no sponsored rankings — structured reviews and INCI data to compare pharmacy products.
The 4 rating criteria
Each review breaks down the experience on 4 axes (plus an overall rating) — not a single Amazon-style star. These criteria feed the product score via our weighted engine (see below).
- Efficacy
- Does the product do its job? Felt hydration, soothing, barrier repair… depending on category.
- Texture
- Application comfort: greasy, sticky, matte or glowy finish, ease to spread and layer.
- Hydration
- Does skin feel tight during the day? Lasting comfort, not just at application.
- Tolerance
- Redness, stinging, reactions — central for sensitive and reactive skin.
How the product score is calculated
The displayed score (rating + recommendation %) is not a simple average. Each review is weighted then aggregated:
- Recency — newer reviews count more (decay over ~12 months).
- Reviewer trust — complete profile, tenure, helpful votes received.
- Credibility — anti-spam filter (short text, abnormal velocity).
- Bayesian average — prevents 5★ displays from just 2 reviews.
- Weighted recommendation % — not a simple yes/no percentage.
- Personalized score — same engine, matched to your beauty profile.
« What people like / What disappoints »
Since June 2026, you can add pro/con tags when writing a review (texture, scent, efficacy…). They are aggregated as percentages on the product page. Reviews published before this feature have no tags: the block then shows a summary based on the 4 criteria and the recommendation rate.
Where data comes from
- Reviews — published by registered members, one review per person and product. Skin type and usage duration required.
- INCI — entered by members in reviews and contributions, completed over time.
- Photos — Leclerc parapharmacy; manual moderation of questionable images.
Independence
Skinvisor is not affiliated with cited labs (Avène, La Roche-Posay, Bioderma…). No purchase affiliate links — rankings are driven only by community reviews.
Brands cannot pay to improve their ranking. The site is still young on review volume — scores refine with real contributions.
